Rules of Domino

  • Goal: Empty your hand before the computer.
  • Match: A tile can be placed when one side matches an open end of the chain.
  • Draw: If you cannot play, draw from the boneyard.
  • Pass: If no tile can be played and boneyard is empty, pass your turn.
  • Blocked Round: If both players pass in a row, lower pip total wins.

History of Domino

Domino likely began in China around the 12th century, where early sets were based on combinations from dice throws. Over time, the game traveled through trade routes and reached Europe, where tile sets and rules evolved into forms that are still common today.

By the 18th and 19th centuries, domino became a popular social game in many regions, especially in Italy, France, and later across the Americas. Its simple rules and deep tactical choices helped it survive across generations, from family tables to competitive clubs.

Winning Tips

  • Keep options open: Try to hold numbers that connect to both ends.
  • Track missing values: If a number is rarely seen, it may trap your opponent.
  • Use doubles carefully: Doubles can control flow but may reveal your plan.
  • Count pips late: In blocked rounds, low-value tiles become critical.
